They have been rock avant garde from the very beginning! On their debut album of 1981 rock formation Palais Schaumburg, with their own style, were already distancing themselves from "German New Wave": elements of funk are mixed with a-tonal song; at one moment their sound is light-footed; at the next it is abstract and intellectual.
At their sparsely held concerts between Berlin and Tokyo they have been celebrated enthusiastically for this mix of experimental dance music and Dadaism. That their sound has lost nothing of its fascination is something that Palais Schaumburg – following several changes of membership, now in their original line-up again – will be demonstrating on 2 April.
